What Do We Believe?
An evangelical, non-charismatic, protestant Christian Church.
The Presbyterian Reformed Church of Australia believes and proclaims that the Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God. We uphold the "Westminster Confession of Faith" as a faithful interpretation of the Word of God. We believe that God is, and will always be, sovereign over the affairs of nations and over the hearts of individuals, and that His Word (the Bible) is to be the guide for our faith and practice in our daily living, that it has the answers to today's needs.
We are "presbyterian" because we adopt the presbyterian form of church government, believing it is consistent with Scripture. Elders in each congregation form a "session", and representatives from sessions meet together as a wider court known as "presbytery". Refer Acts 15
We are "reformed" because we believe the theology commonly known as the Reformed Faith (or the Doctrines of Grace) is a faithful understanding of Scripture. This can be summarised in the five points below:
|
Total Depravity |
All men are affected by sin in all parts of their nature. |
|
Unconditional Election |
As a sovereign God, He has chosen to save certain sinners. This is His own
choice and not based on anything that the sinner can do. (Nevertheless all
people are still responsible to repent and believe the Gospel.) |
|
Limited Atonement |
Christ's death atoned for the sins of those whom God has elected to
salvation. |
|
Irresistible Grace |
When God's elect hear the Gospel, the Holy Spirit will irresistibly make
them willing and able to believe. |
|
Perseverance |
Those truly repenting of their sins and trusting in Christ's atoning death
will be always kept in the faith by the power of God. |
